Nangklao Bridge is one of the main bridges over Chao-Phraya River in the northern part of Bangkok. The development of the nearby residential area is a main cause for the increasing traffic volume, which cannot be supported by the existing bridge alone. Therefore, Department of Highways (DOH) initiated the construction of a new bridge to accommodate the future traffic and connecting the East and West Ring Road.
New Nangklao Bridge is a cast-in-place prestressed concrete bridge constructed by the balanced cantilever method. The main span length is 229 m with side spans of 130 m. The width of the bridge is 26.80 m with 6 traffic lanes. The bridge is founded on bored piles through soft layers to 50-60 m depth. The new bridge continues over the Sanambin Nam intersection. Total length of the bridge is 1,685 m. Improvement of connecting roads to harmonize with the New Nangklao Bridge makes the total length of the project 2.5 km. Overall budget of the construction work is approximately 1,400 million baht.
