The Blue Line Extension is an extension of the initial mass rapid transit system in Bangkok running from Hua Lamphong to Bang Sue, named the MRT Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line. Total length of the extension is about 27 km, comprising 2 sections:
• Bang Sue – Tha Phra Section, the so-called “Circle Line”, elevated across Chao Phraya River and along Charan Sanitwong Road, length 13.1 km with 7 elevated stations.
• Hua Lamphong – Bang Khae Section, running underground for 4.8 km, including under Chao Phraya River, and 8.9 km elevated, mainly along Phet Kasem Road.
NCE was responsible for design of all elevated guideway structures. The typical structure consists of a twin-track viaduct designed as precast segmental box girder continuous over 3 spans of 35 m and supported by a row of single columns in the median of the road. In areas with no median or where columns would cause hindrance to the traffic flow underneath, the viaduct is supported by portal frames.
